Are You Actually Ready to Make Change?
For many people losing weight is a major goal. The idea of losing 10 pounds means feeling comfortable in your own skin, being proud when you look at yourself in the mirror, or for some it’s simply having the energy to keep up with your kids.
Losing 10 pounds may be a goal of yours, but are you actually ready to do it? You might be busy building your career, spending weekends and dinners with friends, or maybe you’re putting your kids schedules first.
Even with these priorities, it’s still possible to lose 10 pounds! Before you begin you need to think about your lifestyle and if you’re willing to do what it takes to reach your goal. If you want to make changes in your body you’ll have to change the way you think about losing weight.
I believe anyone who has this goal can achieve it, but they will need the right knowledge, support, and accountability to get there. If you don’t have these things, you may be setting yourself up for failure before you even begin.
- Are you focused on the process or the result?
If you’ve ever seen before and after pictures of someone who had a major transformation then you’ve likely been inspired by someone’s story. We are often impressed and in awe of their results, yet we fail to credit the process that got them there. Have you ever seen the the show “fixer upper”? If not, I’ll fill you in. Chip and Joanna Gaines take the ugliest house on the block and remodel it into a family’s dream home. The 45 minute home remodeling show has a way of showing how flipping a dud into a diamond is fun and fast. Don’t be fooled though. These are trained professionals working round the clock to renovate and rebuild these average houses into beautifully designed trophy homes. Did you know that the people signed up for the show can wait as long as 6-12 months for the finished product?
My point is, like home transformations, losing weight happens in stages over time. Don’t get caught up in the results and learn to appreciate the process… There’s no secret pill and no fast track that will replace the efforts it will take to transform yourself.
- Are you willing to change your habits?
Our body’s are a lot like the vehicles we drive, they require maintenance and care to perform at their best. If it’s that simple, then why do so many people struggle with reaching their ideal body image?
I believe it comes down to what your goal really means to you and if you want to succeed more than you care to be comfortable. Healthy habits take work and let’s face it, it can be more fun to chose options that taste great, or are fast, convenient, or easy.
You must ask yourself if you want to succeed more than you care to be comfortable! Soon the training, the nutrition, and healthy habits will become your new comfort zone and another goal will replace the previous one.
- Are you ready to invest your time and money?
Nothing meaningful comes without sacrifice. If you have 10 pounds to lose and your current lifestyle is not producing the results you want then it’s time to replace it with something that will.
Coming to terms with changing your schedule and adjusting your budget will not come easy. These are two very guarded priorities in our lives.
The truth is the average workout is 60 minutes long and the average commute is 10 minutes to and from the gym. Conversations come easy when you surround yourself with go getters too, so you can expect to chat about 20 minutes after a workout as well. So ask yourself can you afford about 4.5 hours a week to invest in your health, body, longevity and social life?
In addition, it’s not uncommon to spend 3 hours on a Sunday to shop, prep, cook, and container meals for the week. Prioritizing that time into your schedule at first can seem daunting. After all, who wants to give up binge watching their favorite tv shows to cook healthy food… So, I understand the hesitation. You must take control of your desire to change because it will not happen by chance or without struggles along the way.
Lastly, you will likely have give up a few hundred dollars per month to gain the knowledge, accountability, and support needed to thrive. Certainly it can be done on your own, but few succeed with out the experience and structure that a professional coach or gym can provide. This decision will seem like a leap of faith, but it will feel like the best investment you’ve ever made soon. The habits that are stealing your financial resources currently will be reallocated towards your primary goal and leave you focused and fulfilled.
The thought of hiring a coach or paying for guidance through the process of losing 10lbs. is where many people stop short. It may be a fear of failing at the goal itself or maybe it’s the thought of losing the income. Certainly it can be done on your own, but few succeed with out the guidance and accountability that a professional coach or gym provide. Your decision will seem like a leap of faith at first, but it will the best investment you’ve ever made in yourself.
All successful people have one thing in common when it comes to accomplishing their goals. They’ve made the decision to “Start”. Don’t let doubt, uncertainty, or resources get in your way. There’s always a way to accomplish your goal, it just may take hard work to get there. So if you want to lose 10lbs., ask yourself… Do you want to succeed more than you care to be comfortable?
