How to prepare

Football season is here and it doesn’t have to drag your health and fitness goals through the mud!

No matter your team, football season is a time to be social, hang out with friends and show some team spirit. It is also usually surrounded by beer, bars, and greasy food. If you are focused on a health or fitness goal, this can create some internal conflict and anxiety.

Don’t fret. . . in 3 minutes you will have some strategies for success in the  most common game-day scenarios:

  1. Tailgating
    2. Watching it at a Bar
    3. House Party

No matter where you are going for game-day your number one tool for success is going to be planning ahead. That could mean meal times, prepping and packing snacks, or looking ahead to the menu options at the restaurant you are going to.

If you go in with a plan, you will not only have an easier time staying on track, but you will feel much better about your choices and be able to focus on the fun of the day instead of worrying about derailing all of the hard work you have been putting into the kitchen and gym.

Let’s Talk Alcohol. . .

Depending on your health plan you may or may not drink alcohol. If you do, there are some options that are better than others:

Best Options
These are usually your liquor on the rocks or with soda water. The mixers are usually where the high sugars and calories come into play
1. Tito’s Water (soda or tonic)
2. Whiskey on the rocks
3. Gin on the rocks
4. Tequila on the rocks

High Calorie/Sugar Options:
1. Beer
2. Wine
3. Sugary Mixers (Margaritas, Fruit Juices, Grenadine)

Lets Talk Food . . .

Bring snacks that you can eat on the go
1. Fruit
2. Veggies
3. Nuts/Seeds

Eating out can be challenging, but if you know what to look for you can almost always put together a healthy meal.

Here are some menu options that can be easily made better:
1. Burger: Order with no bun, over bed of lettuce, maybe even add in a side of veggies
2. Chips and Salsa: ask if they have any veggie options (carrots, celery, tomatoes, etc
3. Salads:
4. Chicken Wings: get them dry rub instead of breaded
5. Sandwiches: go no bun over a bed of lettuce

House Party
This is the BEST option because you can bring the healthy food you want to share with friends. This guarantees you know there are options there for you.

3. Hawaiian Chicken Kabobs
